Fair Acres Country Day Camp runs for eight weeks, through the months of July and August. Camp opens at 7:30 am, Monday through Friday, with the camp program beginning at 9:00 am. The camp program ends at 3:30 pm and extended care is available until 5:00 pm. Campers range in age from 4-11 years and are grouped according to their age. Camp runs in two week sessions with most campers choosing multiple sessions throughout the summer.

Fair Acres Summer Camp is all about fun! Throughout the day, campers participate in a wide range of activities which include:

Good ol’ camp fun is the main theme throughout the summer with all of our activities and programming. Campers will rotate from one planned activity to the next with their counselors. All activities are planned for the week by the lead counselors and reviewed by the camp director to ensure quality programming. Campers pack a lunch and drink daily as well as a bathing suit and towel. Fair Acres provides plenty of water breaks during the camp day and requires that all campers have sneakers to ensure their safety during daily activities.

Fair Acres encourages parents to visit camp and experience the same enjoyment and excitement that campers get. Your child will make lasting friendships, learn all about what it is to be a camper and most of all… they will look forward to coming back the next day!

2017-2018 Kindergarten News

We are so excited to announce that Linda Crawford will be our Kindergarten class teacher next year! And, we have no doubt that those of you who know and love Linda, will share our enthusiasm…

Linda Crawford

Linda Crawford joined Fair Acres in 2013 as a teacher in the Pre-K program. Linda is a graduate of Bridgewater State University and began her teaching career in the town of Harvard, MA. After relocating to Falmouth with her husband John, they began their own family and Linda was fortunate enough to be able to stay home for 10 years while raising their three boys. She returned to teaching in 2001 and has since taught preschool at multiple levels in both Mashpee and Falmouth. She is a vital part of the Fair Acres team and is looking forward to many more years full of fun and learning!

“Being a wife and a mother are the two greatest blessings of my life, but being a teacher is my passion! I am so grateful that I still get excited about a new lesson or an old unit ready to be experienced by a new group of students. Developing curriculum has remained both a rewarding and creative experience. So, after more than 30 years of working with 4- and 5-years-olds, what is it time to do? Graduate, of course! Yes, I will be moving from teaching Pre-K to Kindergarten in the Fall of 2017 here at Fair Acres. Spreading my wings a bit and taking on a new challenge is exactly what I would want to encourage all of my former and future students to do. So, why not set the example. I am so excited to be able to “loop” to Kindergarten with some of my current students as well as welcoming some new friends! As you can imagine, plans are already well underway for a productive and fun year ahead! If you have any questions, please reach out to myself, Curt, Jodi or Kathleen. We welcome the opportunity to share our excitement as we move forward in this transition!”

Choosing a school for your child is one of the most important decisions you will make. In additional to our pre-k programs, we are so proud to offer an exceptional Kindergarten, here at Fair Acres.

Because a child’s Kindergarten experience is the first year of formal education, that experience is truly a vital part of preparing a child for success in first grade and beyond. Our well-rounded Kindergarten curriculum is based on the Massachusetts State Frameworks, which is used throughout the state in public Kindergarten programs and is taught by a state licensed Kindergarten teacher.

Though we follow the same frameworks, our full day program paired with the limited class size allows Fair Acres to go beyond the curriculum offered in a public school setting. The curriculum focus’ on phonemic awareness, phonics development, and writing skills as well as early math and science skills. The size of the class allows the teacher to give the children one-on-one attention while addressing the varied abilities in the classroom so that every child’s needs are met.

In tune with the Fair Acres philosophy, our Kindergarten program promotes a strong belief in physical activity with a focus on team sports. Furthermore, in Kindergarten, it is still very important for children to have time for free play which is often unavailable through a half day Kindergarten program. Our full day program offers a structured morning program paired with a center-based afternoon that incorporates play into learning centers designed to encourage cognitive development.

Children graduating from our Kindergarten typically have developed a strong sense of self-confidence and usually experience strong academic success. We’re proud to say that our Fair Acres Kindergarten graduates transition well into public and private first grade classrooms.

We invite you to visit the Kindergarten program and welcome any questions that you may have. We hope you will consider us when making your Kindergarten decision. We are confident that if you choose to enroll your child in our program, they will graduate from Fair Acres with confidence, happiness and will be well prepared for first grade!

Wishing you the happiness of friends, the joy of family, and the wonder of the holiday season.

On behalf of our entire staff, Happy Thanksgiving!

Meet Our Newest Staff Members

We are so happy to welcome our newest staff members to the Fair Acres Family!

Kathleen Bailey, Co-Director

Kathleen has her B.S. in Early Childhood Education from Lesley University and is currently working to obtain her Master’s degree from American International College. She has over 30 years experience as both a teacher and center director. Kathleen lives in Yarmouth with her son Seth and her daughter Madison, who is attending UMass Dartmouth. As a hockey mom, Kathleen doesn’t have much spare time, but when she does, she enjoys playing with her dogs, crocheting and genealogy.

Sara Wiseman, Kindergarten Teacher

Sara Wiseman is our new Kindergarten teacher. She has a Bachelor’s degree from Franciscan University. She has over 16 years of experience in both public and private schools as a teacher of young children. She is certified by the Dept. of Early Education and Care Lead Teacher Preschool and licensed by the Dept. of Education as a teacher of Pre-K through 2nd grade. Ashley currently lives in Sandwich with her family. When she is not teaching, Ashley enjoys taking her dog Lola to the beach, reading, and spending time with her family and friends.

Jumpstart’s “Read for the Record®”

On October 27th, both Pre-K classes participated in Jumpstart’s “Read for the Record®” the world’s largest shared reading experience! Part of a national campaign that was launched over a decade ago, “Read for the Record®” addresses the educational inequities that leave many children unprepared for Kindergarten. As a part of this initiative, we gathered to learn, laugh, and read this year’s campaign book, The Bear Ate Your Sandwich, by Julia Sarcone-Roach. After reading the story as a group, the children all made a special snack with whole wheat bread, sunflower butter, sliced bananas, and blueberries…

Looking for something to read with your family tonight? You can read The Bear Ate Your Sandwich together, here!

The Colors and Activities of Fall!

Ever wonder why the leaves change color in the Fall? We turned to the Farmer’s Almanac to explore when exactly the change takes place, and how the process occurs…click here to find out for yourself!

At Fair Acres, one of our favorite Fall activities, is playing in the leaves!

What are your family’s favorite Fall activities?

If you’re looking for a fun family outing or craft to do in October, here are some suggestions…

  • Go on a cranberry bog tour;
  • Make a wreath;
  • Ride bikes along the canal;
  • Go to a fair;
  • Make a leaf rubbing;
  • Bake a pie;
  • Go apple picking;
  • Visit a corn maze;
  • Go for a nature hike;

Happy Fall, y’all!

Welcome Back!

It is a great time of the year here at Fair Acres. We have successfully wrapped up another summer camp season where over 500 campers enjoyed some “good ol’ camp fun!”

We especially enjoy the summer time and working with our camp counselors who are second to none! Summer camp at Fair Acres is truly a continuation of the Fair Acres Country Day School philosophy of creating fun and learning in a nurturing environment.

Now that the transition from camp to school is complete, our team is focused on getting school off to a great start. Teacher orientation went extremely well, Labor Day open house was the perfect opportunity for our new students to visit their classrooms and our first few weeks have gone as planned. The children are adapting quite well and our incredible staff are exceeding all expectations!

We would like to take this opportunity to thank you and your family for your continued support. We also encourage you to take full advantage of our “family friendly” environment. We believe that these are critical years for your child’s development and we are committed to providing your family with a positive experience that will last a lifetime!

Sincerely,

Curt and Jodi Larson
