Jumpstart’s 2023 “Read for the Record®”

On October 26th, Fair Acres participated in Jumpstart’s “Read for the Record®,” the world’s largest shared reading experience!

Each year, Jumpstart selects a campaign book that fosters language and social-emotional development, honors the diversity in our world, has a strong narrative, and appeals to young children. That book is read across the country and around the world by adults and young readers on Read for the Record day.

As a part of this initiative, the Kindergarten class invited the other classrooms to join them in reading, “With Lots of Love,” written by Jenny Torres Sanchez and illustrated by Andre Ceolin. “With Lots of Love” is a beautiful, lyrical story about a girl who moves from her home in Central America to the United States, and everything she leaves behind and longs for—especially her Abuela—as she makes a new life.

Part of a national campaign that was launched over a decade ago, “Read for the Record®” addresses the educational inequities that leave many children unprepared for Kindergarten, by:

  • Increasing awareness about the critical importance and impact of early literacy
  • Making high-quality children’s books accessible for all children
  • Providing support for Jumpstart for Young Children’s work with early learners in underserved communities across the country

Cast Your Votes to Name our Goats!

Some of you may have already noticed, but we want to officially introduce our two newest additions to the Fair Acres Farm – our two new goats!

Both goats are about 12 weeks old and are Nigerian Dwarf doelings (girls). They come from a farm in Westport, MA that raises goats for their dairy products, including milk, yogurt, and goat cheese! However, our two goats will be pets and will be good company for Amigo. Although they are small now, they still have a lot of growing to do, and predict they will end up being about 30-40 pounds.

The doelings have been settling in well and Amigo really seems to like hanging out with them already. So far, their favorite activity is to jump on anything and everything as well as go on walks around Fair Acres.

Molly (Jodi and Curt’s daughter) and her husband, Dan, take care of the farm, so if you see them around, please feel free to ask them any questions! You are welcome to visit the goats; however, we please ask to not feed the animals any treats, despite how convincing they may be!”

We couldn’t have asked for a more beautiful day to gather for our 2023-2024 Staff photo!

Fall is Fantastic at Fair Acres!

One of our favorite Fall activities at Fair Acres is apple picking! And, we couldn’t think of a better way to welcome the season than by gathering handfuls of delicious, crisp apples from our very own trees, right here on campus…how lucky are we?!
Stay tuned for a whole lot more Fall fun and friendships! 🍏🍎
