April Vacation Camp Highlights

This year’s April Vacation Camp was an action-packed week, full of fun and friendships, featuring plenty of outdoor games, imaginative play, crafts and nature-based activities!

Our vacation campers made use of the entire campus, and enjoyed engaging with each other in this year’s themes, which included “At the Zoo,” “Earth Day,” “Camping Day” and “Circus Day”…

At the Zoo: What a fun day we had down “at the zoo!” We made giraffes, which was a perfect project for developing our fine motor skills….we marched around the field with zoo animal masks playing musical instruments…we made a yummy special snack called, “Animals In a Cage,” with graham crackers, sun butter, pretzel sticks and zoo animal crackers. Our Vacation campers all had a blast pretending to be there favorite zoo animal!

Earth Day: We had an amazing time celebrating Earth Day! Our day was filled with fun, hands-on activities that helped us learn about caring for our planet. We created festive Earth Day crowns and beautiful Earth-inspired paintings, sorted different types of trash to practice recycling, and mixed up some yummy dirt cups for our gummy worm friends to enjoy! We also put together creative puzzles made from recycled materials, showing how we can turn old things into something new and fun. We sang a cheerful song about how the Earth is our home, read a heartwarming story thanking the Earth for all its beauty, and even became Earth Saving Heroes by picking up trash around our campus. What a wonderful way to show our love for the planet!

Camping Day: A camping we will go! The children were very excited to talk about their experiences camping in their own backyards and in the forest with their families. We shared a special Berenstain Bears story about safely walking a trail through the forest by following directions and listening to the rules…we sang a special version of, “We’re Going on a Bear Hunt,” and we decided we are never going on a bear hunt again! We made special sun butter granola bars as a special cooking project…we used binoculars that we decorated during morning free play to go on a special camping scavenger hunt around campus…we looked for things that were bumpy, smooth, flat, and even fuzzy! For a fun court activity, we took turns flipping a marshmallow into a basket using a fly swatter – it was sticky and tricky! We loved exploring all the nature and wildlife our campus has to offer during our camp-tastic day!

Circus Day: What fun at the circus, jumping through “rings of fire,” walking on the tightrope and juggling like circus clowns! We even made special circus snack…what a perfect end to Vacation Camp week!
